My Story

© LAHR - About

From being the “young Walt Disney” in grade school (dubbed so by the other kids as I was always doodling my favourite Lion King characters) to holding concerts in any public bathroom I could find (much to the embarrassment of my parents, but those acoustics!), one could say my career in the fine arts began with two key moments: the day someone put a pencil in my hand to doodle and the day I discovered vocal chords weren’t just for speaking.

Creativity is the song of my soul.

The journey

Born and raised in the US, I grew up spending most of my time in my own little world creating. Creating stories of places I wanted to see, adventures I so deliciously wanted to explore. Childhood became womanhood and my whimsical play with words, song and illustrating took a back seat to the future – attending a German university, career, and growing into the role of adult burdens in a country that wasn’t my own.

I became an architect, but those dreams from my childhood remained unignorable and utterly steadfast in my soul. This website is dedicated to letting that part of my soul soar and bloom into creations. I am only at the beginning of my journey as an independent artist with so much more to come. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you’ll come along.

What a magical thing,

to let the soul sing

knowing not what lies in store

beyond that unknown door

but the gift of desire

when lit by the fire

makes even unlikely dreams soar

What is your favourite medium?
"Honestly, it depends on the day. And other days it feels as if singing, painting and writing are in a duel with each other over who's turn it is to shine.
I always need all three, but singing definitely pulls at a different heart-string for me."
If you could meet anyone who would it be?
"Anyone? Oi, that is a doozy. To keep it short, I'll limit it to other creatives that inspire me.
I would love to meet J.K. Rowling. I grew up with her books, waiting for each one to come out and feeling myself much like the wizard locked in the cupboard under the stairs. Above all, I love her message of love and how she has used her success to help others.
AND I would love to meet Hans Zimmer. His compositions are so incredibly moving. I have cried a fair few times from his majestic soundtracks. Toss in his self-taught and created story - what an inspiration."
What inspires you?
"The little things. Visually, I love looking at nature - from trees to animals. Nature is stunningly beautiful, sometimes odd, so vibrant, full of life and deeper meaning.
I love watching perfect strangers interact, people going about their daily lives, not recognising that they maybe just made someone's day. I love moments that seem so small, yet are so full of heart. It restores my faith in the good things in life.

Matters of the heart inspire me most. If we are not here to love, then what is it all for?"

Favorite Quote on creativity?
"It's from Martha Graham and popped into my life right when I needed the courage to go for my creative dreams and it hit me like a ton of bricks: 'There is a vitality, a life-force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.'"
What is your favourite animal?
"I would like the record to show that I absolutely love all animals and they deserve far better than what we give them.
But if I have to choose one... my go-to power animal is the lion."
Favorite Soundtrack?
"Sorry Hans, this one has to go to Howard Shore. Hands down the Lord of the Rings soundtracks. I've loved them since they first graced my ears at the age of 13 and my wonderment for them hasn't changed since."
Favorite Idea?
"I love the idea that love is the strongest force in this world. Love moves, love heals, love is a power beyond our comprehension. It truly is the greatest magic of all."

“Be that wonderful, unique you that you were meant to be.
You were born that way for a reason. It is a precious gift - let it fly.”
